Santorini & the Aegean Wedding Photographer
Caldera scenery in the Aegean: whitewashed villages, stepped hillsides and cliffs dropping straight into the sea.
Almost every surface here is white, which is both an advantage and a risk. The advantage: white walls act as an enormous reflector and soften faces. The risk: get the exposure wrong and the dress and the wall melt into the same brightness with nothing separating them.
Light and timing
The caldera faces west, so sunset is the main event here — and you are not the only one who knows it. The popular spots overflow at that hour. I prefer to work against the grain: early morning, before the crowds, gives the cleanest light on the whitewash.
Practical
There are a great many steps; I do not plan long descents in a dress and heels. For weddings abroad, travel and accommodation are a separate line — send me the date and we talk about the total up front.
Practical notes
- Light
- The whitewash works like a huge reflector and softens faces, but a missed exposure melts the dress into the wall. The caldera faces west.
- Getting there
- The Aegean islands. There are many steps, and long descents in a dress are hard.
