Salamis ruins Wedding Photographer
An ancient city on the east coast north of Famagusta: standing colonnades, a Roman theatre and open ground running down to the sea.
What makes Salamis is the scale. The colonnades run like a corridor and shrink the human figure — frames where two people disappear into the stone are what this place does.
Light
This is the island's east coast, which inverts what you know from the Kyrenia side: the sun rises out of the sea. The hour for light on the water is early morning. By late afternoon the sun has moved behind the land — the sea flattens, but frames facing inland pick up a warm backlight. On this coast the ceremony time decides the photographs more than anything else.
The site is open and shade is scarce; at midday there is almost nowhere to hide apart from the columns' own shadow. The choice is between early morning and the last hour of the day.
Practical
This is an open-air site with opening hours and rules set by its administration, and they shift with the season. Confirm with them before fixing a date.
Practical notes
- Light
- East coast: the sun rises from the sea, so light on the water is an early-morning thing. The site is open with almost no shade.
- Getting there
- About 8 km north of Famagusta centre, on the coast road.
