Getting married in Cyprus is one of the calmest decisions a couple can make, and one of the easiest to overthink. This is a practical guide for UK couples: what to plan, what to book early, and what to double-check with the right offices rather than trust a blog. When should you get married — season and weather?

The island runs hot and dry through summer. July and August are beautiful but genuinely warm, so ceremonies tend to move to late afternoon and portraits to the golden hour before sunset. May, September and October are the gentlest months — warm days, softer evenings, low chance of rain. Spring is green and full of wildflowers; winter is quiet and suits a small elopement.

If you want cooler weather and more room to breathe on availability, look at April or November. My only strong opinion as a photographer: build your day around the light, not the clock.

The paperwork — a general outline (verify everything)

This is the part where I will not give you certainties, because they change and getting them wrong is costly. In broad terms, a Cyprus wedding for UK couples usually means presenting valid passports, birth certificates, and a certificate of no impediment to marriage, with documents certified and — if you marry in North Cyprus — translated into Turkish. Most UK couples fly into the south and cross, or route via Turkey to reach the north. Guests need to understand their route early, especially if they choose to marry in North Cyprus, so build a simple travel note into your invitations.

Where to stay

Kyrenia and the villages around it are the usual base — a mix of boutique hotels, larger resorts and rented villas. Villas work well when family travels together; hotels are simpler for larger guest lists. Book the block early for peak months.

What actually drives the budget

The big levers are the season, guest numbers, and how much you travel between venue, ceremony and accommodation. Flights and where everyone sleeps often cost more than the ceremony itself. Fewer locations means a calmer day and, usually, a smaller bill.

1. 9–12 months out: pick a season, hold a venue, confirm the legal path with the municipality.
2. 6 months: guest travel and accommodation blocks.
3. 2–3 months: gather and certify documents; recheck requirements haven't changed.
4. Final weeks: confirm timings around the light.
